Second-Hand Sweater
About a year ago I lost my favorite sweater. I can only say about a year ago, because I'm not exactly sure when I lost it. All I know is this, after my son was born I delved into the pre-pregnancy clothes and it was nowhere to be found. I posted a bulletin on myspace hoping someone had borrowed it and my pregnancy brain had completely erased all memory. Nothing. I decided either it got thrown out in the trash or someone stole it! There's no other possible explanation for a favorite clothing item to go missing.
I tried to get over the loss of that sweater, time and again. But, seriously, I'd lay awake at night trying to retrace my steps and conjure up some suppressed memory leading me to where it went astray. Nothing. I considered some hypnotherapy, but I saw what happened to Agent Bristow on Alias and I'd rather not take my chances. So I gave it up to God.
Today I was looking for some Dansko shoes on Ebay and thought, "hey, maybe the jerk who stole my sweater is hawking it on ebay!" Ok, I didn't think those exact thoughts, but something like that. And low and behold...I found it!! Or its twin, to be exact. And the story gets even better because I won the auction!
Originally I paid about $20 or $30 for the sweater from J.Crew during a season-end clearance. This time I got it for $13 + $8s/h. Not to shabby. The sweater originally cost something like $80. I know this because I drooled over it for a long time before finally finding it on clearance. So even after buying it twice I'm still ahead! And I have a sneaking suspicion about this whole situation: now that I've bought a replacement the lost sheep will wander home. Maybe not, but I can hope!
I'm planning to sleep very peacefully tonight!! But I better finish up this blog and get dinner on the table before my biscuits burn.
