Popcorn

If you don't know my family's love for popcorn...this story may not be exciting.

Today I made some microwave popcorn (a poor substitute for my Dad's hand crafted divinity-of-the-kernel) for a mid-day snack. I was trying to carry Adelaide, the popcorn, a drink, and climb the stairs-all at the same time. Normally Adelaide goes for whatever drink is in my hand so I left the popcorn unguarded. She found it. She found it to be quite interesting, to be exact. She began mercilessly pounding her open hand up and down against the mound of white. Waves of popcorn escaped the edges of my bowl doomed for the trash bin, but it was ok as Adelaide was exploring her new found love-popcorn. Yes! She is a Downey by birth, but a Kenworthy by taste. Okay, I didn't really let her try the popcorn. Allowing her to make an avalanche of popcorn was enough, allowing her to choke would have overstepped my new boundaries as the kind of mom who sits back and watches while her child explores the world around.

I'm off to enjoy the popcorn that didn't end up in the trash.
