Pickin'

Little did I know what I was getting into when my MIL called one morning and ask if I wanted to go pick grapes. I signed up without a thought of the hours of grueling labor that I would have to endure. Picking the grapes isn't the hard part, but as these posts continue you'll see what I mean.

Because I believe in makin' babies, birthin' babies and keepin' 'em close (and also because I cannot afford to have a nanny on retainer) I decided to drag my kids along with me for the adventure. Besides, these pictures just wouldn't be as cute if it were only me, my MIL and my SIL. Nope they would be just plain boring.

Picking grapes along the Eel River.

I still haven't figured out what my face is doing. I'm pretty sure I didn't know I was having my picture taken. I'm also pretty sure my nostrils couldn't possibly flare any wider. (Let's just say it was a sour grape, ok? Ok.)

Aren't they purty?

Aren't they purty too?

Uh, nice grapes.

Mmmm, they're edible!

Pretty good, too!

There's this strange crunchy center...delicious!

See that laundry basket? We ended up filling it!

After we finished picking grapes on this side of the river, we decided to try the west bank. With one kid on my back and the other in the jogging stroller we headed out to find the best place for crossing. We all rolled up our pants and braved the frigid waters to find that the grapes on the west side were nice, but not quite as abundant as the east side. We forged back across the icy rapids to enjoy the last rays of sunshine (aka: thaw out) before heading home with our loot.

Stay tuned to see what happens to these poor unsuspecting grapes!!
