Grants Pass: A Short Story of Sore Legs

This past weekend we visited my cousin-by-marriage Jeff Gogue in the lovely state of Oregon. Jeff is an artist. His major medium is tattoos. He is an amazing artist, thus he is an amazing tattoo artist. He is the one I recommend to all my friends, come to think of it I've recommended him to strangers as well. He is the only one whom I will let ink me, and I think everyone should, if they chose to be inked, drive to Grants Pass and be tattooed by Jeff Gogue. But be sure you have an appointment.. Walk-ins are unheard of in Jeff's studio.

So our trip was quite an adventure. We left early on Saturday morning. Ok maybe I shouldn't use the term early, but it wasn't too late. We had our tires rotated at Costco and found out that we needed 2 new tires due to improperly aligned wheels...an even longer story I won't go into (it involves Nate hitting a few wooden pallets on the highway and our insurance giving us the short end of the stick). So when we finally left Eureka it was close to 1pm. Then just outside of Crescent City we pulled up to a long line of stopped cars. I, feeling adventurous(and also having to pee), decided to walk a bit and see what the fuss was about(and keep my eyes peeled for an obliging bush to relive myself behind). I walked, and walked and walked. I never reached the root of the problem, but found out that it was an accident with numerous fatalities and that the wait would be a good hour. I still had to pee, and there was no place private. All the while I was getting wet because it was raining. Not the normal kind of rain either. It was the Humboldt County kind of rain. The kind that feels like mist, but pretty soon its dripping off your nose and you're soaked through. Luckily I was wearing wool which, if you live in wet weather you should know, is warmer than cotton when wet. So...finally we were able to drive the rest of the way to Grants Pass without further ado.

We had a lovely visit that included trying a new Chinese food restaurant and learning that Adelaide doesn't appreciate the loud barking of my cousin's dogs. She did however enjoy being pushed around by her cousin Andrew in his Adelaide-size dump truck.

On the way home we narrowly escaped being stuck in the snow, in the middle of APRIL! And we also saw many Elk and one fox. I got pictures of it all on my new digital camcorder.

All in all it was a fun trip. But this morning I woke up and couldn't figure out why my legs were sore. I don't exercise much, so I didn't know why I should be sore. Then it hit me. My loooooong walk up Highway 101. Yep, that is why. So there you go. It isn't much, but its better than nothing. Which is what I have posted for the past 2 months. And for that I am very sorry.
